This post is intended for parents or carers of babies which have been diagnosed with regurgitation or reflux and whose healthcare professional has prescribed Aptamil AR.
Both the composition and the packaging of Aptamil AR have changed. The requirements with regard to the composition have been adapted to the new EU regulations and the latest scientific insights. The packaging has also been adjusted, so that you can better distinguish the food for medical use, infant formula and follow-on milk and find it on the shelves more easily.
Aptamil AR is now available in two stages:
- Aptamil AR 1 – From birth to 6 months;
- Aptamil AR 2 – From 6 months onwards.
Aptamil AR is a patented next generation formulation, combining locust bean gum, a natural thickener, with our unique process.
When introducing Aptamil AR, you may notice a change in your baby’s poos to more frequent and softer, more loose to soft pudding-like consistency.
How to transition gently to the new product?
Some infants need a gradual transition, therefore you can replace a bottle of your baby’s current formulation with one bottle of Aptamil AR each day – starting with the first switch with new formula in day time for better tolerance. Your healthcare professional may advise specific transition time and techniques for your baby. It can take about a week to adjust to a new formula for some babies.

IMPORTANT NOTICE: Breastfeeding is best for babies. Aptamil AR is a food for special medical purposes and must be used under special supervision for the dietary management of regurgitation or reflux. It is not suitable for preterm babies.
